The students of Wheeler Avenue School in Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen held their annual winter concert and the joyous sounds of holiday music that filled the auditorium were accompanied by the thunder of appreciative applause.
The school’s junior choir and children’s choir, both directed by Gregory Hart, displayed their vocal talents through seven songs. The junior choir opened the concert with an upbeat rendition of Russell Robinson’s “Let’s Celebrate Life,” while the children’s choir finished their set with Berry Gordy, Hal Davis, Willie Hutch and Bob West’s inspirational “I’ll Be There.”
Under the direction of Matthew Spinks, the orchestra and chamber ensemble played several traditional holiday pieces. The orchestra performed a lively arrangement of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” as their closing number, while the chamber ensemble ended their set with the familiar strains of Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
The concert finished with a medley of traditional holiday pieces performed by the advanced band under the direction of Michael Soscia.
