On January 11, using PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) Howell Road School staff excited students about their school-wide positive behavior and learning program. During a school-wide PBIS booster assembly, expectations for safe, respectful, responsible and caring behavior were reinforced using the evidence-based and nationally popular school improvement program (Howell’s 10th year using the program).
Wise Owls were also introduced during the booster assembly. The Wise Owls are a new kind of Owl to add to our traditional PBIS Howell Owls for following our behavioral expectations. These owls will also be awarded to students for using high-level vocabulary. In addition, Mr. Olsen introduced the Howell Olympics, dividing the school into two teams (green and white). He explained that teams will earn points by completing homework, getting class Owls and other class-wide and school-wide events and activities. Students and staff were enthusiastic about these initiatives.
Using PBIS, we explicitly teach and use practices and routines that encourage positive learning and social behaviors.
