Six James A. Dever students, Matthew Foster, Muhammad Hydarali, Angelina Perrone, Hannah Indiviglio, Casey Wells and Emily Plevritis, traveled to Stamford, Ct. to compete in the Fifth Annual New England Scrabble Tournament. After an intense and challenging day of playing five rounds of Scrabble, Angelina Perrone and Hannah Indiviglio placed third in the Novice Division. The girls also won a special prize for best “Spring” word made during a game—the word was tulips. In addition to placing third in the tournament, another team received special recognition for highest scoring game. Congratulations go to Matthew Foster and Muhammad Hydarali. In addition, Matthew won highest individual play. The district would like to congratulate all six students for successfully representing Valley Stream Thirteen UFSD and for a job well done. The Director of the Tournament, Mrs. Cornelia Guest complimented their playing, appreciated their help setting up before the start of the tournament and hopes to see the students return to compete again next year. The Dever Scrabble Club has 28 members and meets on Monday afternoons in the Dever library to practice their math, vocabulary, spelling and strategic skills. The club advisor is Roxanne MacDonald.
