Wheeler Avenue School is the winner of the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream’s 2012 School E-Cycling Challenge. Wheeler Avenue recorded the most student participation and collected the greatest amount of e-cycling items out of the seven elementary schools that participated in the challenge. E-cycling is the practice of reusing, or distributing for reuse, electronic equipment and components rather than discarding them at the end of their life cycle.
In recognition of the students’ success, Wheeler Avenue was awarded a weeping cherry tree, which was planted on the school’s grounds. A dedication ceremony, featuring the presentation of a plaque detailing the students’ achievement, was held on Oct. 1 at the school.
Village of Valley Stream Mayor Ed Fare, Judge Robert G. Bogle, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund and Wheeler Principal Gayle Steele were in attendance as Mayor Fare presented the students with certificates specifying their accomplishments.
