Important safety procedures to be used in the event of a fire were reviewed and put into action as students in kindergarten through second grade celebrated National Fire Safety month and enjoyed a visit from the Malverne and Valley Stream Fire Department.
The Valley Stream Fire Department came with a modular smoke house, which helps to teach children what to do in a fire through simulated fire situations. The children were very excited when the smoke detectors sounded then quickly determined their best plan of escape checking for safe windows or doors. A fireman and classroom teacher supervised all of the events.
The children also had the opportunity to explore the outside of a fire truck, learn about turnout gear, and learn how to STOP-DROP-AND-ROLL. The children learned many valuable life-saving fire prevention and safety tips to share with their families.
