Juniors from North High School recently visited each of the four elementary schools in the district to provide a lesson on healthy living and wellness.
The 11th-graders, who volunteered their time as part of North High School’s Physical Education Leadership Program, taught the district’s second-graders about wellness and health. A presentation was made about the five major food groups and the importance of exercise and eating well.
There were several interactive stations for student learning, including a dance station where students exercised and a station where younger students observed the amount of sugar commonly found in soda.
The program offers high school students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, while helping to inform Valley Stream’s younger students about the positives of regular fitness and eating well.
