Each year, under the guidance of school librarian Mrs. Carole Anne Gravert, the Willow Road Student Council organizes a school wide Souper Bowl competition to see which class can collect the most canned goods during the month of January. The class with the highest number of cans brought in per student is declared the Souper Bowl winner and is presented with a special Souper Bowl trophy.
This year, a total of 847 cans of food were collected and donated to the Inn of Hempstead. The coveted Souper Bowl trophy was presented to Mrs. Salvatore’s first-grade class. In attendance to present the champions with their award were Willow Road School Principal, Mrs. Stephanie Capozzoli; Student Council President, Rebecca Testani; Vice-President, Deanna Cona and school librarian, Mrs. Carole Anne Gravert.
This was a very exciting community service project for the students where everyone was a winner.
