The Willow Road School hosted its second spring concert under the direction of Kristan Nordquist and Cynthia Shannon. The show opened with a performance by the fifth and sixth-grade Glee Club. This glee club is comprised of a select group of vocalists, who were required to pass an audition to become part of this performing group.
The second spring concert is also known as the beginners’ concert because the fourth-grade orchestra and band is comprised of students who have been practicing their instruments for less than a year. The performers did a wonderful job and demonstrated to those in the audience how much can be accomplished with dedication and practice.
Each year the PTA sponsors a dancing classrooms program. Select dancers gave it their all by displaying their many dance styles such as the tango and swing.
The show ended with a performance by the third-grade recorder students. All third grade students learn to play the recorder, a simple instrument that teaches children the basics of note and rhythm reading as well as proper embouchure and technique. These musical skills will greatly assist students when they choose their musical instruments in fourth grade.
