Mixing fun and fundraising, the March of Dimes Wonder Walk parade at Willow Road Elementary School filled the streets around the Franklin Square school with joy as students marched for charity. Led by Principal Stephanie Capozzoli and kindergarten teacher Vita Tringone, holding the parade banner, the entire community joined in on the fun, with staff, teachers, parents, grandparents, babies and even several pooches donning colorful costumes for the long walk around the block. Superheroes and zombies, soldiers and scarecrows, angels and witches, pirates and police officers all had their turn in the parade spotlight. While the costume stroll proved entertaining for everyone, a heartfelt mission lies at its core: Donations collected by students are donated to the March of Dimes, an organization devoted to helping improve the health of pregnant women and babies. A Willow Road fixture for more than a decade, the annual event was again organized by Tringone, who has been involved with supporting March of Dimes since her own sons were infants. “The parents love it because it’s more than just a short, five-minute parade, and our neighbors all get involved,” said Capozzoli. “And the kids feel good because they are helping others.”
