On Tuesday, April 28, the Board of Education unanimously appointed Constance D. Evelyn Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2018.“This appointment concludes a thorough and extensive superintendent search that took place over the past several months,” said Board of Education President Joseph DiSibio. “After interviewing several highly professional and qualified candidates, it became clear that Constance Evelyn possesses the professional experience, innovative vision, desire to engage our entire school community and personal integrity to lead our district to the next level of success. On behalf of the Board of Education, I welcome Ms. Evelyn and look forward to working together to ensure the success of every student.” During the search process, representatives of School Leadership LLC, the professional consultants who conducted the search, facilitated a community survey and collaborated with the district’s key stakeholders, including staff, parents and community residents, to identify the highest-priority qualifications to guide the search process. “I am extremely grateful to the Board of Education for their confidence and the trust they have placed in me to serve Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen as your next Superintendent of Schools,” said Evelyn. “I look forward to working with staff, parents, students and the community to move the district to the next level of success.” Prior to joining Valley Stream UFSD Thirteen, Evelyn served as Superintendent of Schools of the Auburn Enlarged City School District, Cayuga County’s largest school district. She was also chosen to serve on the three-person Smart Schools Bond Act Commission. Before leading the Auburn schools, she served as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Ithaca City School District and as a middle school principal in the Oswego City School District. She began her career as a special education teacher in the Bronx.
