During the month of December, students in the Willow Road School held their Mitten Tree drive. "The Mitten Tree”, a book written by Candace Christiansen, is a beautiful story of a woman who knits mittens for children that are less fortunate and do not have any mittens to keep their hands warm. After she was finished knitting each pair of mittens, she would hang them on a very special tree called "The Mitten Tree" for children less fortunate.
Coordinated by Willow Road School building aid Lorraine Grosso, 222 mittens were donated to the Mitten Tree drive. The mittens were then donated to Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne and Holy Name of Mary Church in Valley Stream. Each church received 111 pairs of mittens. The students showed the true meaning of caring about others and the importance of helping your neighbors in need.
