Students at Wheeler Avenue Elementary School participated in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program, learning the importance of active lifestyles and raising funds to support cardiovascular health.
Students in each of the school’s six grade classes took turns jumping rope under the direction of physical education teachers Janet Miller and Rob Primeggia, both of whom helped to coordinate the event. The school had raised more than $2,000 for the American Heart Association prior to the event, and Miller said the goal was to raise at least an additional $1,000 on the day of the program. Primeggia, who also served as a deejay for the event, used the platform to vocalize the benefits of exercise and healthy lifestyles following students’ use of the jump ropes.
Jump Rope for Heart served as a way for students to exercise for a worthy cause, and also as the latest altruistic endeavor at Wheeler.
