During the weeks of December 4th and December 10th, Howell Road Student Council hosted a Book Drive. In collaboration with Student Council members from the other three schools in the district, Student Council is collecting new and slightly used books in order to support schools in the surrounding areas that were struck by devastation in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
News of our recent fundraising efforts has reached former Howell Road School student, Jennifer Strohl. Jennifer is a 1980 graduate of Howell Road and is currently Barefoot Books Ambassador Trader. She lives in Illinois and has embraced the opportunity to help a community that is close to her heart. In addition to making a very generous donation of books, Jennifer has posted a link on Facebook and on her marketplace website: www.BarefootBooksLady.com, offering a 20% discount on any books purchased to help the cause. All of Mrs. Strohl's commissions will be donated to the American Red Cross Sandy Relief Fund. On a final note, illustrator Jackie Morris from the UK posted the Book Drive link on her Facebook page after hearing about Jen’s efforts. How exciting to know that our Book Drive has gone global!!
