Students throughout the district celebrated national Red Ribbon Week by pledging to remain drug free. “A healthy me is drug free” was the theme for numerous activities focusing on raising awareness and educating students about the dangers of drug abuse. Students were encouraged to live a healthy lifestyle and to make wise and healthy decisions. In partnership with the PTA, students participated in several activities each day including: turn your back on drugs day, put a cap on drugs, red t-shirt day and red socks day. At James A. Dever School, students marched outside carrying letters that spelled out DRUG FREE. Students at Howell Road School wore red t-shirts and signed a banner pledging to remain drug free. Wheeler Avenue students participated in the Power of One anti-bullying assembly and tied red ribbons outside their school. At Willow Road School, students learned about the dangers of drug abuse and promised to remain drug free with a week of activities. Parents were also provided with information and talking tips focusing on how to speak with children about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.
