Congressman Gregory Meeks took time out of his busy schedule in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 29 to visit with students and staff at Wheeler Avenue and Howell Road Elementary Schools. Students in Noelle Villa’s fifth-grade class at Howell Road were doing experiments to explore whether or not water was pure as part of the ongoing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program. Meeks stressed to students that ensuring water’s cleanliness is pivotal, because otherwise people can get very sick. “I am truly amazed at how hard you’re working to make sure the water is pure and clean,” Meeks said. “Water is one of our most valuable resources.” Meeks fielded questions from students, including “Are you famous?” and “What are President Obama’s kids like?” After visiting with the students, Meeks spoke with members of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund, Principal Frank Huplosky, parents, and members of the PTA about his role in Washington and how he could assist the district. District officials were very appreciative that Meeks visited to see the school in action. Before leaving, the Congressman had a strong message for the students.“There is nobody more important than you,” Meeks said to the students. “You are the future of this country, and I am proud that future is in good hands.” Click here for photos from Wheeler Click here for photos from Howell
