It was an evening of celebration and tears as family members and invited guests joined to celebrate the Howell Road Elementary School sixth-grade moving-up ceremony held at the Elmont Library. Prior to the start of the ceremony, the audience was treated to a moving photo presentation appropriately titled Remember When featuring baby photos along with current photos of each of the students. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund, who will be retiring at the end of the school year, encouraged the students to think about the credits that appear at the end of a movie and to reflect upon those in their lives including parents and guardians, teachers, staff members and classmates who should receive the credit for helping them become the young women and men they are today. “Plan your time wisely, choose friends who make good decisions, stay safe and healthy and make wise choices. Start with you best foot forward, do your personal best and always remember to say thank you,” stated Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund. Several members of the Board of Education attended the ceremony including Vice President Toni Pomerantz and board trustees Dr. Frank Chiachiere, Dr. Sean Douglas, Patricia Farrell and William P. Stris. Mrs. Pomerantz extended best wishes on behalf of the board and offered the students important words of advice. “Always make good choices, do the right thing even when it is easier to do the wrong thing and remember how much everyone loves and cares for you,” stated Mrs. Pomerantz. Howell Road Elementary School Principal Frank Huplowsky congratulated the students on all they had accomplished and noted how much they have contributed to the legacy of Howell Road School. “Today is not the end of a journey, it the beginning of a new journey that will lead to greater success,” stated Mr. Hupolsky. Throughout the program, there were several moving musical performances. Several students representing the Class of 2015 spoke fondly and emotionally about their amazing memories at Howell Road School and their goals for the future. The Class of 2015 also donated a replica of the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci as their gift to the school. As the moving-up ceremony came to a close, the students proudly exited holding their well-deserved diplomas and joined their families to celebrate their success.
