The auditorium at the Elmont Library was filled with family members and invited guests awaiting the start of the James A. Dever Elementary School Class of 2015 closing exercises. The program began with a video montage featuring baby photos and current photos of each student as well as photos of memorable moments of their days together.
Several members of the Board of Education were in attendance including trustees Dr. Sean Douglas, Patricia Farrell and William P. Striss. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund encouraged the students to continue to do their best and to always remember those who help them succeed. “Think about all you have become and the people who helped you along the way. They deserve the credit for helping and guiding you every day,” stated Dr. Robb-Fund. “Always remember to put your best foot forward, do you personal best and say thank you to the people who help you succeed.”
Representing the Board of Education, Dr. Sean Douglas congratulated the students on their success. “I applaud your efforts, hard work and determination,” stated Dr. Douglas. “Dream big, work hard and stay humble.”
Throughout the program, the students performed several choral selections including their class song. James A. Dever Principal Darren Gruen shared that he was honored to be the only principal the students had known. “When I think of all you have achieved, I hope you are as proud of yourselves as I am of you. Celebrate the end of one journey and the beginning of a new journey filled with success,” stated Mr. Gruen. “Tonight you are at a crossroads. Move forward with wide-eyed optimism.”
Following the ceremony, the students and invited guests gathered together to celebrate and enjoy refreshments generously provided by the PTA.
