Family members and invited guests gathered in the auditorium at the Elmont Library to celebrate the Willow Road Elementary School Class of 2015 closing exercises. The program began with a moving slide show presentation featuring individual photos of all the students as well as photos of their most memorable moments together. Board of Education Trustees Dr. Frank Chiachiere, Patricia Farrell, Dr. Sean Douglas, Jeanne Greco Jacobs and William P. Stris attended the ceremony joined by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-fund, administrators, teachers and staff. On behalf of the Board of Education, Jeanne Greco Jacobs congratulated the students on their achievements. “This is a turning point not an end. You have received a stellar education upon which you can now build,” stated Ms. Greco Jacobs. “Find your passion, remember there are many around you who will help you and remember to say thank you. Enjoy the summer, keep reading and try to learn something new every day.” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund reminded the students to thank those who helped them become who they are today. “From the time you were born, so many people including everyone at Willow Road School helped shape your emotional and academic learning,” stated Dr. Robb-Fund. Reminiscing about her own childhood, Dr. Robb-Fund shared her mother’s words of wisdom “Always go into something new with your right foot first and you will have a wonderful year. Always do your personal best and try your hardest and always remember to say thank you to the people who helped you along the way.”“Tonight, we give you back the children you entrusted in our care,” stated Willow Road Elementary School Principal Stephanie Capozzoli. “It has been a pleasure to watch their personalities unfold day-by-day. We all marvel at how they have grown and changed since that first day of school.” To the students she added, “You are the carriers of the light, our nation’s children. Go forward with conviction and confidence and let your light shine.” During the program, there were several enjoyable musical selections performed by the sixth-grade class. Student Council President Deanna Cona, Vice President Tyler McGoey and Secretary Rebecca Testani also shared their fondest memories of their elementary years. As the ceremony came to an end, the students proudly exited the auditorium where they were congratulated by their families and friends.
