Students in grades K-2 at James A. Dever Elementary School celebrated National Fire Safety month by welcoming the members of the Malvern and Valley Stream Fire Departments.
During their visit, under the supervision of a fireman and a classroom teacher, students learned valuable life saving lessons including how to stop, drop and roll and what to do in the event of a fire. Inside a Smoke House, under the direction of the firemen, students learned how to react in various simulated fire situations. When the smoke detectors sounded, students quickly put their newly acquired safety skills into action as they quickly left the house by climbing out a window.
Students also enjoyed exploring the inside and outside of a fire truck and learning about the gear that a firefighter wears. It was a fun-filled day for all and a valuable lesson in life saving fire safety.
