The Willow Road School gymnasium was abuzz as students sang, danced and brought to life book titles during a very special assembly led by singer/songwriter, Ms. Lee Knight."Books Alive", sponsored by the Willow Road PTA, is an interactive concert created for kindergarten through sixth-grade students that encourages a love of reading and supports the Common Core Learning Standards. Knight and her partner Ms. Laura Williams encouraged students to participate on stage and perform scenes from popular children's books. Knight has written more than 120 songs for school aged children and uses these songs in her musical performances. The audience was enthusiastic as students and teachers dressed in costume, sang songs and used a variety of props to bring the books alive. Matilda, Harry Potter, Chocolate Fever, Wonder and Hatchet were some of the books highlighted in the first assembly for grades 3-6. During the second assembly, students in grades K-2 were entertained with storybook favorites Strega Nona, Mean Jean The Recess Queen, Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type, Charlie The Caterpillar, Matilda, Gingerbread Baby and If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. Both assemblies offered an exciting experience to have fun with books.
