Kindergarten students throughout the district celebrated the end of the school year with moving-up exercises that signified their readiness to transition to first grade.
Individual ceremonies for students of James A. Dever and Howell Road elementary schools, as well as a combined ceremony for Wheeler Avenue and Willow Road elementary schools held at Willow Road, brought together family, friends, teachers and administrators to share in this first elementary school milestone.“This is when we recognize the accomplishments of all of our kindergarten students,” said Dever Principal Darren Gruen. “What the children have done this year in kindergarten is begin to construct a firm foundation upon which to build.”
In each moving-up exercise, students made their processional entrance to the applause of a proud audience. After they had performed several short songs, the kindergartners were individually called to walk across the stage and receive their certificate of accomplishment, along with gleeful recognition by family and friends in attendance.
Congratulating the students at each of the ceremonies was Superintendent of Schools Dr. Adrienne Robb-Fund, who was present to share in the happiness and pride of their successful completion of the school year and their advancement to first grade in the fall.
