Responsibility, respect, citizenship, trustworthiness and fairness were the daily themes highlighted during No Name-Calling Week at the James A. Dever School. This weeklong event was designed to encourage students to stop bullying by not becoming bystanders, but instead to become bully prevention activists. Each morning began with a “Thought of the Day” announcement highlighting the daily theme, followed by brief classroom discussions. Events planned throughout the week focused on self-discipline, tolerance and acceptance, respect for others, cooperation, honesty and integrity, sportsmanship and accountability. These lessons, which provide students with the tools needed to make the right choices, will be reinforced throughout the school year through additional activities as part of the school’s and district’s anti-bullying character education program. To make the week even more exciting, students were invited to wear different clothing each day based on a theme, including Rock Star Day, Mismatch Day, School Colors Day, Hippie Day and Team Colors Day.
